Completed 2019

This Cronulla apartment by EB Interiors caters to the quintessential Australian lifestyle, with high-end detailing and finishing but an open floor plan that inspires relaxed living and connections to the outdoors. With an exquisite location overlooking the Cronulla marina, the penthouse apartment had great bones but required an update for its new owners.

Working sympathetically with the original architecture, EB Interiors completed a full renovation of the apartment, utilising key architectural features and adapting the design to fit the family’s needs and lifestyle, while complementing the existing attributes of the spaces within. An existing curved staircase envelops the dining area, creating privacy from the living room while remaining connected to the kitchen, which was repositioned to take a more central role in the living space. This relocation also meant the family could now enjoy the harbour view while preparing meals and eating at the new island. A longer bench and a butler’s pantry were added to make the kitchen a more workable space for the family.

The living spaces spill out onto a generous deck with an outdoor lounge to enjoy the weather and the view in comfort, while the pool edges the property, visually merging with the sea beyond.Natural materials such as stone and beautifully finished timbers are combined with rich fabrics and colours, such as the deep blue velvet sofa and tan leather armchairs in the living room. Existing travertine stone was resurfaced to bring out its original texture and shine. An aquarium spanning across the wall from the media room to the bar creates a connection with the apartment’s seaside location. This eye-catching feature also brings a sense of serenity into the internal spaces, with the soft bubbling of water and the fluid movement of aquatic life.

Completing the renovation of this apartment on the fourth floor of the building presented some challenges due to site access restrictions, with cranes employed to lift heavy stone and furnishings into the apartment. The result is a family home that is sensitive to the integrity of the original architecture of the building, while also providing a modern lifestyle with connections to the outdoors and the incredible views beyond, as well as easy connections between spaces within.
