Umbra

Perched where open ocean meets sheltered bay, Umbra responds to Cronulla’s in-between condition — a place shaped by accumulation rather than drama. The design draws on that threshold quality, layered and calibrated rather than confrontational: stepped forms, deep edges and horizontal planes that echo the rock platforms below and treat the ocean as something to live alongside, not dominate. Materiality is restrained and enduring, left to weather and patinate like the coastline itself — a quiet sanctuary shaped by tide, wind and sun.
