Top tasks — your most common edits

If you only read one section, read this. These are the tasks you'll come back to most. Step-by-step, no jargon.

01

Change the homepage hero slideshow images

Themes → Customize → Home → Slideshow

  1. Admin sidebar → Online StoreThemes → click Customize on the live theme.
  2. Top of the editor: page selector → Home page.
  3. Left sidebar: click Slideshow (top of the section list).
  4. Click the slide you want to change → the right panel shows the image picker.
  5. Click the image thumbnail → Select image → upload a new file. Spec: 2400px wide, ~16:9 or 3:2 landscape, JPG, under 1MB. Keep all slides the same aspect ratio so transitions don't jump.
  6. While in the upload dialog: add alt text (one natural sentence describing the photo).
  7. To add a slide: click Add slide at the bottom of the slide list. To delete: click a slide → trash icon.
  8. Top-right: Save. The slideshow auto-rotates.

The beige squiggle that overlays the bottom of the hero is decorative, added via the theme — not editable in the slideshow.

02

Swap the primary featured project (full-width banner)

Content → Blog posts → Projects → tag swap

The full-width featured project banner at the top of the homepage auto-pulls the project tagged primary-featured-project. Only one project should carry this tag at a time. Swap it by moving the tag from the old project to the new one.

  1. Admin sidebar → ContentBlog posts.
  2. Filter by blog: Projects.
  3. Find the project currently featured and click into it.
  4. Right sidebar → Tags → click the primary-featured-project tag to remove it. Save.
  5. Open the project you want featured next.
  6. Tags → type primary-featured-project → press Enter to add it. Save.
  7. Refresh the homepage — the new project replaces the old one in the full-width banner.

If two projects have this tag by accident, whichever was published most recently wins. Best practice: only ever one.

03

Change & reorder the 3-tile featured strip

Content → Blog posts → Projects → Project · Display order metafield

The three portrait tiles underneath the primary featured banner are driven by the Project · Display order metafield. Whichever three projects have the lowest Display order values render, in ascending order. Currently: Sanderling (10), Jigsaw House (20), Terrazzo Tide (30).

Add a project to the strip
  1. Admin sidebar → ContentBlog posts → blog: Projects.
  2. Open the project you want to feature.
  3. Scroll to Metafields → find Project · Display order.
  4. Enter a number lower than 30 (e.g. 25 to insert between Jigsaw House and Terrazzo Tide). Save.
Reorder the three that appear
  1. Open the project you want first → set Display order to 10. Save.
  2. Open the project you want second → set Display order to 20. Save.
  3. Open the project you want third → set Display order to 30. Save.
  4. Refresh the homepage — the strip is in your chosen order.
Remove a project from the strip
  1. Open the project → Metafields → Project · Display order → clear the value. Save.
  2. The next-lowest Display order takes its place.

Use gaps of 10 (10, 20, 30) so you can slot new tiles in later (e.g. 15 between 10 and 20) without renumbering everything.

To change how many tiles show (default 3): Themes → Customize → Home → Home featured projects section → adjust "Max projects shown".

04

Swap the featured journal article

Content → Blog posts → Journal → tag swap

The homepage journal feature strip and the top of the Journal index both auto-pull the article tagged primary-featured-blog. Same tag-swap mechanic as the primary featured project. Only one journal article should carry this tag at a time.

  1. Admin sidebar → ContentBlog posts → blog: Journal.
  2. Open the journal article currently featured → Tags → remove primary-featured-blogSave.
  3. Open the journal article you want featured next → Tags → add primary-featured-blogSave.
  4. Refresh the homepage and /blogs/journal to verify.

The featured article is hidden from the grid underneath, so it doesn't appear twice on the Journal index.

05

Reorder projects on a sector page

Blog post → Metafields → Project · Display order

Sector landing pages (Residential, Multi-Residential, Commercial, Coming Soon) show projects in this order: any project with a Display order set (lowest first), then everything else sorted by Year completed (newest first). Coming Soon projects (no year) sort alphabetically.

  1. Admin sidebar → ContentBlog posts → blog: Projects.
  2. Open the project you want to appear first on the sector page.
  3. Scroll to Metafields → find Project · Display order → enter a low number (e.g. 5 to push above everything else).
  4. Save.
  5. For most projects, just leave Display order blank and let the automatic year-completed sort do the rest.

Display order is global — the same number controls the project's position on the sector grid AND the homepage 3-tile featured strip. Set it once.

06

Edit an existing project

Content → Blog posts → Projects → click the project

  1. Admin sidebar → ContentBlog posts → blog: Projects.
  2. Click the project. The most-common edit fields and where to find them:
Change the tile / hero imageRight sidebar → Featured image → upload new file → add alt text

Hit Save (top-right) when done. Changes are live the moment you save.

07

Add a brand-new project

Content → Blog posts → Add blog post

Before you start: have the project name, featured image (renamed + compressed), sector, year, credits, brand colour and SEO title/description ready. Detailed checklist in Section 03 of this guide.

  1. Admin sidebar → ContentBlog posts → click Add blog post (top-right).
  2. Title: type in sentence case (e.g. "Rock House"). The site auto-uppercases tiles and page headings — don't type SHOUTING CAPS.
  3. Right sidebar → Blog: confirm Projects is selected.
  4. Right sidebar → Featured image: upload. 2400px wide, landscape, JPG, under 1MB. Add alt text in the dialog. Used on the sector grid tile and on the project page hero if no separate hero is set.
  5. Right sidebar → Tags: add sector tag (residential · multi-residential · commercial · coming-soon) + year (e.g. 2024). Skip year for Coming Soon projects.
  6. Right sidebar → Theme template: confirm article.project is selected (NOT article.journal or default article).
  7. Scroll to Search engine listing previewEdit website SEO: page title (under 65 chars, format: {Project Name} — {Sector} Interior Design, Sydney | EB Interiors) + meta description (140–160 chars).
  8. Scroll to bottom → Metafields: fill what applies. Key fields:
    • Project · Year completed (must match the year tag)
    • Project · Location — optional, e.g. Cronulla, NSW
    • Project · Scope — Interior Design (tick if applies)
    • Project · Scope — Custom Fabrication, Furnishing, Object and Art (tick if applies)
    • Project · Photographer, Architect, Builder, Landscape Designer, Editorial Stylist (where applicable)
    • Project · Hero image: optional override — leave blank to use Featured image
    • Project · Gallery: Add image for each gallery photo, drag to reorder
    • Project · Brand colour block: pick a swatch — drives the tile hover colour
    • Project · Display order: optional. Set 10/20/30 to include in the 3-tile homepage strip
  9. Right sidebar → Visibility: set to Visible.
  10. Top-right: Save.
  11. Open the project URL in a new tab to verify: tile appears on the sector page, brand-colour hover works, gallery pairs correctly.
08

Upload a press article

Content → Metaobjects → Press

Press entries are metaobjects, not blog posts. They render automatically on the Press page in a 4-column magazine-cover grid, newest first.

  1. Admin sidebar → ContentMetaobjects.
  2. Click Press in the list.
  3. Top-right: Add entry.
  4. Fill the fields:
    • Publication: masthead name (e.g. "Vogue Living", "Belle Magazine").
    • Date: publication month + year.
    • Project name: which EB project the press is about.
    • External URL: link to the article online. If print-only, upload a PDF first (Content → Files), then paste its URL here.
    • Thumbnail: magazine cover or article hero. Portrait works best (3:4). 1200px tall, JPG. Add alt text.
    • Tile colour: optional fallback colour if no thumbnail.
  5. Click Save.
  6. The new entry appears on /pages/press immediately, newest first.

To edit an existing press entry: same path, click the entry name in the list, edit, Save.

09

Change a sector hero banner (All Projects, Residential, Multi-Residential, Commercial, Coming Soon)

Content → Metaobjects → Sector Hub

Each Projects page — the main /blogs/projects hero AND every filtered sector page — has its own editable hero banner (image + heading). All five are managed from a single place: the Sector Hub metaobject.

  1. Admin sidebar → ContentMetaobjects.
  2. Click Sector Hub in the list.
  3. You'll see 5 entries: Projects (All Projects hero), Residential, Multi-Residential, Commercial, Coming Soon. Click the one you want to edit.
  4. Hero image → upload a new landscape image. Spec: 2400px wide, JPG. Add alt text.
  5. Display name → the H1 heading over the banner (e.g. "Residential"). Edit if you want different wording.
  6. Intro copy → short paragraph below the heading.
  7. Default colour block → fallback hex for project tiles that haven't set their own brand colour.
  8. Meta title / Meta description → Google search appearance for the sector page.
  9. Save.
  10. Refresh the matching page to verify:
    • All Projects → /blogs/projects
    • Residential → /blogs/projects/tagged/residential
    • Multi-Residential → /blogs/projects/tagged/multi-residential
    • Commercial → /blogs/projects/tagged/commercial
    • Coming Soon → /blogs/projects/tagged/coming-soon

Don't change the Sector tag field on a Sector Hub entry — it's how the hub finds its projects. Must stay lowercase-hyphenated: residential, multi-residential, commercial, coming-soon, all-projects.

01

The lay of the land

Three places hold every editable piece of content on the site. Recognise these paths and the rest is easy.

CONTENT · BLOG POSTS

Blog posts

Projects and Journal entries share this Shopify content type — but only Journal is ever called “the blog.” A project is a project, never “a blog post.” See the naming rule below.

Admin → Content → Blog posts
CONTENT · METAOBJECTS

Metaobjects

Team Members, Press, Sector Hubs, Brand Colours, Journal FAQ. Edit once, render everywhere.

Admin → Content → Metaobjects
ONLINE STORE · PAGES

Editorial pages

About, Services, Press, Contact, Privacy, T&Cs. Standalone pages with their own layouts.

Admin → Online Store → Pages

Three core principles

  1. Projects live in Shopify’s Blog Posts area — but a project is never “a blog.” Shopify stores every project as an article inside the “Projects” blog (same content type as Journal), and the admin button even reads “Add blog post.” That’s just Shopify’s fixed UI. In how the team talks and writes about the site, only the Journal is “the blog” — a project is always a project.
  2. Reusable content lives as Metaobjects. Team Members, Press entries, Sector Hubs, Brand Colours, Journal FAQ. Edit once → renders everywhere on the site.
  3. Type as you read it. In the admin, type everything in sentence case. The site auto-applies UPPERCASE where it should appear (project names on tiles, button text, etc.). Don’t type SHOUTING CAPS.

Naming rule — blogs vs. projects: Shopify's back end can't tell a "project" from a "blog article" — both live under Content → Blog posts, and Projects technically sits inside something Shopify calls a "blog." Ignore that when talking or writing about the site: Journal is the blog. Projects are projects (or "project articles") — never "a blog" or "a blog post."

02

Imagery sitewide

Every image location, every spec, and the three-step discipline before every upload.

The image map — where each image lives

Find the right path BEFORE you swap a photo. Most “why didn’t my image update?” questions come from changing the wrong copy in the wrong place.

The three-step rule — every hero upload

1

Rename

kebab-case, descriptive, no spaces or special chars.

✕ IMG_4327.JPG
✓ rock-house-kitchen-island.jpg
2

Compress

Drag into TinyPNG.com. Free. Cuts 60-80% with no visible loss.

✕ 4.2 MB original
✓ 380 KB after TinyPNG
3

Alt text

One natural sentence describing what’s in the image.

✕ image of kitchen
✓ Kitchen island in travertine with brass pendant, Rock House

Alt text — our recommendation

Alt text is the short caption Google and screen readers see when an image loads. We’ve already added alt text to every hero image (project tiles, journal hero, team portraits) using the formulas below.

For new uploads: always do hero images (Featured Image on each project). Skip gallery shots — with hundreds of detail images and no real search volume for specific room shots, the return doesn’t justify the time. Hero alt text covers the SEO and accessibility baseline; gallery alt text is a nice-to-have, not a must.

Alt text formulas (for hero images)

Project tile / hero
{Room or scene}, {Project Name} by EB Interiors
Kitchen island in travertine, Rock House by EB Interiors
Project gallery
{Specific feature}, {Project Name} {room}
Brass pendant and oak shelving, Riverhouse kitchen
Team portrait
Portrait of {Name}, {Role} at EB Interiors
Portrait of Emma Buchan, Principal at EB Interiors
Press thumbnail
{Publication} {Month Year} cover
Vogue Living December 2025 cover
Sector hub hero
{Sector} interior design by EB Interiors, {scene}
Residential interior design by EB Interiors, coastal home

Never: “image of…”, “photo of…”, filenames, keyword-stuffing, generic placeholders.

03

Adding a project

The headline workflow. Eight steps from new project to live on the site.

Prerequisites — have these before you start

  • Project name (final)
  • Featured Image — renamed, compressed, alt text drafted
  • Gallery images — renamed, compressed, in display order, alt text each
  • Body copy — written, edited, 1-3 paragraphs
  • Sector — Residential / Multi-residential / Commercial / Coming soon
  • Year completed (e.g. 2024)
  • Location — Suburb + state (e.g. South Yarra, VIC)
  • Credits — Photographer, Architect, Builder, Landscape, Stylist (where applicable)
  • Scope — Interior Design / Custom Fabrication / Styling
  • Brand colour swatch — pick from EB palette OR project-specific hex
  • SEO meta title (< 60 chars)
  • SEO meta description (150-155 chars)

The 8 steps

01

Open the New Blog Post screen

Admin sidebar → Content → Blog posts → click Add blog post (top-right).

02

Title — sentence case

Type the project name as you want it written. The site auto-uppercases on tiles and project page headings — don’t type ALL CAPS yourself.

Example: Rock House → renders as ROCK HOUSE on the tile.

03

Featured Image — tile + hero in one

Right sidebar → Image field → upload. This single image becomes the sector grid tile AND the project page hero. Pick the strongest horizontal shot.

Spec: 2400px wide, landscape, JPG, < 500KB. Add alt text in the upload dialog.

04

Tags — sector, year, optional featured

Type each tag and press Enter. Spelling matters exactly:

  • residential · multi-residential · commercial · coming-soon
  • Year as number, e.g. 2024
  • Optional featured — surfaces on homepage Featured Projects
05

Template — article.project

Right sidebar, scroll down. Confirm article.project is selected (NOT article.journal). This gives the project its hero, credits and gallery layout.

06

Search Engine Listing

Between Excerpt and Metafields, click Edit website SEO.

  • Page title (< 60 chars): {Project Name} | {Location} {Sector} Interior Design | EB Interiors
  • Meta description (150-155 chars): plain-English summary including “Sydney” and project specifics
  • URL handle: short and clean (riverhouse, not the-riverhouse-2024-final)
07

Metafields — the project credits

Scroll to the bottom. Each field is labelled with “Project ·” prefix. Fill in what applies, leave the rest blank.

Project · LocationSuburb, state — e.g. Cronulla, NSW
Project · Year completedYear as number — must match the year tag
Project · Display orderOptional. Lower number = appears earlier in the sector grid. Use gaps of 10 (10, 20, 30…) so you can slot new projects between. Leave blank to fall back to Year-completed sort.
Project · ScopeMulti-select — Interior Design / Custom Fabrication / Styling
Project · PhotographerPhotographer’s name
Project · ArchitectIf applicable
Project · BuilderIf applicable
Project · Landscape DesignerIf applicable
Project · Editorial StylistIf different from EB
Project · AwardsOne per line
Project · Hero imageOptional override. Leave blank to use Featured Image.
Project · Gallery+ Add image → upload each → drag to reorder
Project · Brand colour blockPick a swatch — drives the tile hover colour
08

Save — then verify on the live site

Hit Save (top-right). Flip Visibility to Visible. Open the project URL. Check:

  • Tile appears on the sector page
  • Brand colour hover effect works
  • Gallery scrolls in your chosen order
  • Year filter shows the year as an option
  • Related Projects strip at the bottom pulls 3 other projects from the same sector
04

Editing a project

Open the project, edit the field, hit Save. Changes are live the moment you save.

05

Journal articles

Editorial content — designer guides, trends, store recommendations. Same machinery as projects, different blog and template.

Adding a journal post

  1. Content → Blog posts → Add blog post
  2. Title — type in Title Case (the site keeps your casing here)
  3. Content — rich text body. H2 for major sections, H3 for sub-sections.
  4. Featured Image — 16:9 landscape, 2400px wide, < 500KB
  5. Blog — set to Journal (right sidebar)
  6. Theme template — article.journal (NOT article.project)
  7. Tags — optional category labels: designers-guide, trends, working-together
  8. Search engine listing — page title + meta description
  9. Metafields — fill the “Journal ·” fields (see below)
  10. Save → flip Visibility to Visible

Editing an existing journal article

Content → Blog posts → filter to Blog: Journal → click the article title. Edit any field, hit Save — changes are live the moment you save, no separate publish step.

Body copy and metafields do different jobs. Use the right one, not just whichever is easiest to find.

Headline, paragraphs, sub-headings, inline imagesEdit in Content (rich text) — the only field meant for free-flowing copy.
Eyebrow label above the titleJournal · Category — not the title or a body line.
Italic intro line under the titleJournal · Lead — don’t bold the first body paragraph instead, it won’t match the styling.
“X min read” next to the dateJournal · Reading time.
Who’s credited as the authorJournal · Author — pulls name + portrait from Team Members. Typing “By Emma” into the body gives plain text only.
CTA button partway down the articleJournal · Show inline CTA (toggle on) + Journal · CTA text / link.
FAQ accordion at the bottomJournal · FAQs — also emits FAQPage schema for Google rich results. A typed-out Q&A list in the body doesn’t get that markup.
Image + text callout between sectionsJournal · Feature 1 / 2 / 3 (image + heading + text) — renders as a distinct visual block, not an inline image sitting in the body flow.

Why it matters: each metafield has its own position, styling and (for FAQs) SEO markup built into the theme. Typing the equivalent content into the body skips all of that — it’ll look inconsistent with other journal articles and, for FAQs, won’t generate the structured data Google uses for rich results.

Journal metafields

Journal · CategorySingle label shown as eyebrow above article title. e.g. “Designer’s Guide”, “Trends”.
Journal · Lead paragraphItalic intro paragraph above the body. One strong sentence or two.
Journal · Reading time (minutes)Number — renders as “X min read”.
Journal · AuthorTeam member reference. Defaults to Emma if left blank.
Journal · Show inline CTAToggle — when on, renders a CTA partway through.
Journal · CTA button text / linkButton label + URL for the end-of-article CTA.
Journal · FAQ itemsList of Journal FAQ metaobject entries. Renders as accordion + FAQPage schema for Google rich results.
Journal · Feature 1 / 2 / 3Three optional image + heading + text blocks. Renders between body sections.

“More from the Journal” at the end of each post is automatic, not a metafield — the theme pulls the newest other Journal posts (default 3). Adjust the count in Theme Editor → article page → Journal related section → Max articles shown.

06

Team, press, sector hubs, brand colours

Four metaobjects that drive reusable content. All under Content → Metaobjects.

Team Members

Drives the About team grid + Emma’s portrait on the homepage Meet Emma block.

  1. Content → Metaobjects → Team Members → click name (or “+ Add team member”)
  2. Name — full name as displayed

SEO essentials

Every project, page and journal article has a Search Engine Listing preview. Fill it in deliberately — every time.

Already done: all 48 launch projects have bespoke SEO titles + descriptions written by Cultivate Studio. The formulas below are the reference for FUTURE projects and journal articles.

Formulas

PAGE TITLE (under 65 chars)
{Project Name} — {Sector} Interior Design, Sydney | EB Interiors
META DESCRIPTION (140-160 chars)
Sentence 1: project + type + one distinctive material or detail. Sentence 2: brand closer (e.g. “EB Interiors, Sydney”). Vary the closer, no exclamation marks.
URL HANDLE
Short, clean, no dates → riverhouse (not the-riverhouse-2024-final)

Swap “Sydney” for the specific area if the project has a distinct location (Cronulla, Sutherland Shire, Southern Highlands).

Live example — Riverhouse

PAGE TITLE
Riverhouse — Residential Interior Design, Cronulla | EB Interiors
META DESCRIPTION
Coastal contemporary family home in Cronulla featuring travertine, brass and oak. Interior design by EB Interiors, Sydney.
URL
ebinteriors.com.au/blogs/projects/riverhouse

Image SEO

Rename files before uploadriverhouse-kitchen-island.jpg, not IMG_1234.jpg.
Alt text on every imageDescriptive sentence — e.g. “Riverhouse kitchen island in travertine with brass pendant lighting.” Helps screen readers and Google + AI search.
